“Describe the last time you were surprised by the intensity of a feeling you had about something, or were surprised at how strongly you reacted to something you thought wouldn’t be a big deal.”
We were talking about music, we were having a simple conversation about something so common, we were talking about music and how the words conveyed a meaning, and how that meaning took over lives, we made arguments from two intellectual citadels and fired missiles made of words at each other. We battled verbally on a psychic level over the triviality of how a mode of speech could topple a civilization and how the misinterpretation of an idea wrapped in filth could divide generations. We made weapons of metaphors and compared lyrical poisons, we tested tempers and temperaments flared.
In the end before all was left was ragged shreds we had to agree to disagree that the notes and beats that rock a generation may or may not be it’s undoing.
